  1. Take all your back up or want to prepare time machine back etc. etc. Please refer youtube videos on this. Remember to exit from all of your logged in accounts including logins to all apps , icloud, apple store, iTunes etc. From, here I am considering you have done back and all related initial steps.Make sure your laptop is connected to Wifi during all the below steps.You would need to connect it multiple times.
  2. Once you are ready to reset, first we have to enter into the recovery mode press. Shut down the system. To start first press option + command +R hold all three and press power switch continue holding all for till the apple log appears once Apple logo appear release power button and continue holding (option+command+R)
  3. After few minutes if you see language option pop up choose the one you want.
  4. Than choose the 'disk Utility' last row in the pop up Window, that appears after above step.
  5. Here go and select the hard drive you want format in the left column. For me it is 'Macintosh HD' after selecting, choose erase in the upper Menu. Next step is we have to choose the disk formatting correct format.
  6. After click erase a pop up window appears. scroll second tab to search Mac OS Extended (valued something similar,… no need to go for encrypted). Choose Mac OS Extended option and erase the drive with this format. This will delete all your data on disk and now disk will show only 20K approx. of data after format. If you don't see and only apfs and related extensions are available, and if you want you can give one try ; format the disk using apfs. after that close the disk utility. Once you do that you will back to the first Window. Now this time choose the Mac OS Installation from the first pop up Window that appears earlier and continues as the questions asked.
  7. Now, wait for 30-40min. to see if the disk formatted and New setup Window appears for applications setups. If you are lucky everything will continue well and you will have Mac ready to use.
  8. In POINT 6/7, IF you cannot see Mac OS Extended or If you get the error 'Could not create a preboot volume for apfs install'. Follow these steps.
  9. Shut down. Start again in Recovery mode. Follow the kets carefully for all the next steps. (Press option+Command+R and now press power button , once apple logo appears release power button but continue holding OPtion+Command+R until recovery mode window appears.
  10. Choose Disk Utility , Again erase the partition 'Macintosh HD' using apfs available partition. Now select the 'Macintosh HD' and delete the partition by clicking the 'minus' sign that appears the moment you select the partition, somewhere near and above the partition column. This will remove the disk now you can only see backup disk partition.
  11. Once done shut down the system. Next step is important, This time when restarting do this: Press Command+R (no option) and press power button , almost in 1-2 sec moment or immediately release power button. Once apple shows loading bar / or globe release all remains or both buttons (command+R)
  12. This time laptop will do update through internet recovery.After 5-6 minutes Disk Utility Window pop up back again. Don't do any thing. Go to the apple Menu bar at the top and find and choose to open a Terminal
  13. IN the terminal type the following command :
  14. diskutil eraseDisk HFS+ 'Macintosh HD' disk0
  15. If above command complete successfully, it should say 'Finished erase on disk0'. If it fails go to disk utility and again perform Erase on 'Macintosh HD' partition using apfs. (This time try without delete the partition ). Exist terminal. Shut down and restart using step 11 and continue with step 12,13…
  16. Remember we need to get Mac OS Extended format during erase instead of apfs, to achieve this point 13 and 14 is must to work.Before proceeding ahead make sure 14. is successful
  17. Next step exit the Terminal from the File Menu bar at the top. And go inside disk utility choose disk utility from the pop-up Window.
  18. Select Macintosh HD partition and choose Erase this time slide the second bar and choose format Mac OS Extended (valued) Once disk is erased. Exit disk Utility.
  19. Choose Mac OS Installation from pop up recovery Window and proceed with the questions and wait for 30-40 min. to get your MacBook ready. (High Sierra in disk Utility will automatically convert your disk format to apfs during installation)
